Roger Federer beats Andy Roddick in Wimbledon men’s single title showdown that ended in the 30^th game of the fifth set. The second-seeded Federer won 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 for his sixth Wimbledon crown.

In a match as improbable as it was long, Roger Federer won the Wimbledon men’s singles title in a showdown that lasted more than four. Federer has never broke Roddick’s serve until the final game, which sealed the victory. The 30 games in the fifth set easily set a Wimbledon record and surpassed Federer’s marathon loss to Rafael Nadal in last year’s final, which went to a 16th game in the fifth set.

Federer won hard-fought tiebreakers in the second and third sets, but Roddick kept his composure to take the fourth 6-3 and force the Wimbledon final to a fifth set for the second straight year. Read more…
