Federer Beats Roddick. Wins 15th Grand Slam

federer beats roddickRoger Federer beats Andy Roddick. Roger Federer beats Andy Roddick, his 15th Grand Slam, in a marathon Wimbledon final. Roger Federer beats Andy Roddick in Wimbledon men’s single title showdown that ended in the 30th game of the fifth set. The second-seeded Federer won 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 for his sixth Wimbledon crown.

In a match as improbable as it was long, Roger Federer won the Wimbledon men’s singles title in a showdown that lasted more than four. Federer has never broke Roddick’s serve until the final game, which sealed the victory. The 30 games in the fifth set easily set a Wimbledon record and surpassed Federer’s marathon loss to Rafael Nadal in last year’s final, which went to a 16th game in the fifth set.

Federer won hard-fought tiebreakers in the second and third sets, but Roddick kept his composure to take the fourth 6-3 and force the Wimbledon final to a fifth set for the second straight year. Read more…

All eyes in the tennis world are on Roger Federer and Andy Roddick as they battle for Wimbledon men’s singles final today.

Roddick Wins the First Set, 7-5
Roddick is hitting huge serves up the T in the deuce. He is looking to attack the Federer backhand if he can get a short ball. I’m thinking back to the incredible backhand volley he hit to save the 5-5 game in the first set.

Roddick weathered a slew of unforced errors that game, which, if he wins this match, will be seen as the turning point. I thought Federer outplayed him in the first set, until Roddick broke him in a loose game for Federer.

Federer Wins the Second Set, 7-6 (6)
What a turnaround by Federer! The second set was on Roddick’s racket, but he badly misplayed a tough high backhand volley. Federer made him play a difficult shot by going high with topspin up the line. It looked as though Roddick may have thought the ball was going long as he appeared indecisive. Roger Federer is Looking for his 15th Grand Slam title. Roger Federer will face Andy Roddick in Wimbledon’s men’s final today. Roger Federer is eyeing his 6th Wimbledon Trophy today and 15h Grand Slam title overall. Today’s final match at the against Andy Roddick is Federer’s seventh straight Wimbledon finals appearance.

All eyes in the tennis world are on Roger Federer and Andy Roddick as they step onto Centre Court. While Roger Federer will be playing for his place in tennis history, trying to pass Pete Sampras’ record and take sole ownership of the record for Grand Slam victories with 15, a rejuvenated Andy  Roddick will be trying to beat an opponent he has had only beaten twice in 20 encounters.
